Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom is an old school fighting game available exclusively for the Nintendo Wii. Despite the fact that most US players won't be familiar with the obscure Tatsunoko anime brand, TVC delivers some of the absolute best fighting game play available on a console today, and certainly the best fighting experience on a Nintendo console in the past decade.

Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom is essentially a 2D fighting game with side scrolling combat. Don't let this fool you into thinking that TvC looks outdated or underdeveloped. TvC has some of the liveliest, most detailed graphics you'll find in a fighter on any console. In fact, Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom is probably one of the most visually exciting games you'll play on the Wii. Animation is absolutely smooth, and the special effects pop and explode without getting in the way of the action.

Deep down, Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom plays with only three buttons. However, advanced players and hardcore fighter fans will have much more to look forward to. You'll use the Wii remote to pull of light, medium, and heavy attacks and string together complex combos. This allows novices to jump in and play, while adding depth for any player who wants to spend more time with the game.
Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom relies on a familiar tag team format, where you can tag in another competitor, chain their moves together, and more. This allows for some advanced strategies and plenty of moves you wouldn't have expected.

If you plan on trying out Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, you'll probably be at least mildly curious as to what Tatsunoko is. Tatsunoko is an all-encompassing Japanese anime brand that includes franchises such as Tekkaman Blade, Gatchaman and Yatterman. Although these names are far from mainstream in America, the Tatsunoko brand is effectively the granddaddy of modern anime, and it's been hugely influential around the world. TvC, as the name suggests, pits familiar Capcom characters like Ryu and Chun Li against Tatsunoko characters.

The musical score for TvC sets the tone, and it's exactly what you'd expect from a polished, modern fighting game. Sound effects are expertly done, and serve to reinforce the effects you'll see on your screen. Voice work is superb, and TvC includes both the original Japanese and re-dubbed English voice tracks.

The old adage "easy to learn, difficult to master" certainly applies to Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom. Playing through the single-player campaign will serve to introduce users to the basic controls, and practicing in arcade mode will let you learn the deeper intricacies of the game. The online multi-player mode is an awesome addition, but beware: there are already a lot of players taking this title seriously, and you should be ready for some tough competition when you venture online. This game will turn a lot of casual fighter fans into hardcore proponents of the genre.
Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom also includes an excellent, albeit somewhat unrelated, top-down shooting game that can be played with up to four players. It's polished enough to be a separate Wii Ware title, and it's included in the purchase price of the game.

Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom comes highly recommended for any Wii owner with even a passing interest in fighting games. Don't let the unfamiliar brand scare you away; this title is a must-have for any fan of the Capcom Vs. franchise.
