Your wrist is the slimmest part of your body and although Slim wrists have been considered a sign of beauty for centuries, it is now know that those with smaller wrists are at higher risk for Carpel Tunnel Syndrome.

The carpals are the bones in your wrist your wrist and in the wrist is the carpal tunnel, which is enclosed by the carpals on three sides. On the fourth side is a transverse carpal ligament. Within this narrow space are the median nerve and nine flexor tendons. These tendons are what help you to bend your wrist. If for some reason the carpal tunnel is too small, or if the tendons within the tunnel become larger, your median nerve will be compressed.

Through the median nerve you get feeling in your thumb, forefinger, middle finger, and part of your ring finger. If the median nerve is compressed the feeling to these fingers will begin to decline and you will begin to feel a sort of numbness or tingling – just like when your hand is falling asleep.

When you bend your wrist to form a right angle the carpal tunnel becomes much narrower. Now, if you think about it most activities, such as cutting hair or typing require your wrist to bend. Keeping it bent for prolonged periods of time compresses the median nerve and leads to the symptoms of CTS. When one of these activities is done repeatedly you could be in serious risk Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
